Think You’re too Old? Can you be fit at 80 or even at 90 years old? The answer is YES ! The world’s oldest Even though these guys have been active for most of their lives, it is not necessary to have been an athlete in the past in order to get in shape now. Anyone can make small changes in lifestyle and reap the health benefits by making regular physical activity part of daily life. If the thought of exercise depresses you or you feel you are unable to do any movement of any kind without the association of pain or discomfort, then you need to try thinking from a positive view point. Focus your thoughts on the fact you are trying something new and you have the prospect of feeling better, having more energy and improving your health. Also remember, a 70 year old can be as fit, or more fit than a 45 year old couch potato. If you still are hesitant to get moving, then consider this: In a large government study, it was shown that 32% of women and 15% of men older than 60 who were overweight and had diabetes were unable to walk a quarter of a mile, climb stairs or do housework. Think about the physical and emotional hardships that inactivity and disability cause for individuals and their families, and there should be no doubt that regular physical activity should be part of your daily life. |
