During the holidays we seem to have more than enough opportunity to indulge in foods that are very high in calories.  Holidays are centered around food and people typically abandon their good eating habits from Thanksgiving through the New Year.

Some tips to help keep the holidays healthy include:

  • Eat plenty of lean protein such as ham or white meat turkey. Skip the gravy.
  • Instead of dressing or high calorie casseroles, go with a fresh vegetable or sweet potato.
  • Skip the dessert and try some fresh fruit.
  • When snacking, trade in the cookies and candy for fresh salsa or turkey chili.
  • As always control your portions. At family gatherings we sometimes eat to fill time or just because it is there. Try planning a fun activity or something to keep yourself and others from hovering over the food the entire time.

Happy Holidays!
